Adult Learning Principles

Presented by

Alberta Home Visitation Network Association

Learning Objectives:

These workshops are intended to be a professional development opportunity for a variety of community-based personnel to come together and hone their group facilitation skills. Workshops are based on adult education principles that can be transferred to all types of settings such as staff training or community educational sessions, or by using them in board, staff or even sport team meetings. Participants will leave with some innovative, creative and practical ideas for delivering vibrant on-line sessions.  By applying new delivery techniques, participants will help turn their own groups into something that inspires and motivates others.

Participants will:

  • Have an increased awareness of adult education principles
  • Experience facilitation techniques using adult learning principles
  • Be able to recognize the importance of creating a safe learning environment for their groups which will lead to more participant engagement and motivation in their participants

This workshop will:

  • Honor the values, skills and experiences participants come with by helping them notice what strengths they have, and build on those strengths
  • Have participants experience and practice interactive approaches to adult group facilitation so that they will use these methods in their own groups – both virtually and face to face
  • Help to motive and empower facilitators to use a variety of adult education techniques within the context of their existing programs
