CHEEERS and CHEER Follow Up Series

Presented by

Alberta Home Visitation Network Association

About the Series:

Great Kids Inc integrated Strategies training offers a quick overview of several strength-based tools designed to support families with their goals, as well as tools to support home visitors to reflect on and be more intentional in their partnerships with families.

CHEEERS and the prenatal version, CHEER, are intended to help home visitors observe and reflect on parent child interaction and to plan for ways to support the family’s strengths and where the relationship and nurturing responses could be strengthened.

To dive deeper into the observation, documentation and use of the CHEEERS tools, AHVNA is offering a 4 week virtual follow up series.

This series will include the opportunity to:

  • Review and practice observing and documenting CHEEERS and CHEER
  • Discuss and practice using CHEEERS observations to support families
  • Discuss and practice using CHEER to support prenatal health and attachments
  • Discuss with peers how CHEER and CHEEERS might be best used in your community and agency, with the families you partner with.

Note: if you took GKI training prior to 2020, CHEER will likely be new to you, however, you do not need to be familiar the prenatal version to attend these sessions

Virtual Workshop Expectations

This is a workshop where attendees will practice, participate, and discuss, including the use of break out rooms.

As such each person attending must have the following:

  • Computer with camera, microphone, and internet connection
  • Their copy of the Integrated Strategies for Home Visiting manual
  • Their blue GKI resources folder (optional)
  • Paper and pen for writing
  • Handouts may be provided; we suggest that you print them

We want people to get as much from our virtual workshops as they would from an in-person series.
