Developmental Supervision/Coaching in Practice training workshop for Developmental parenting, PICCOLO and HOVRs

This is a one-day workshop offered in conjunction with the two-day Developmental Parenting and PICCOLO training and HOVRS training

Pre-requisite: Must have completed Developmental Parenting and PICCOLO and HOVRS training

Incorporating Developmental Parenting into ongoing supervision/coaching requires some planning and practice.  This training is designed to help supervisors and/or coaches integrate Developmental Parenting principles into their established supervision practices. Supervision for Developmental Parenting helps practitioners apply the principles and practices of a strengths-based developmental approach to help parents support their children’s early development. Supervision for this approach provides continuous process improvement by setting up feedback loops of information while maintaining open communication in positive relationships. Supervision is a parallel process in which a supervisor interacts with a practitioner as the practitioner should interact with parents.

This training focuses on the use of the PICCOLO and HOVRS as tools for use by practitioners to improve their role as a coach for the families and for supervisors/coaches to become thoughtful, data-informed coaches for their home visitors. Video examples of home visits will be used to set up supervision scenarios that will structure supervision practice.  Forms used to help guide practitioners and supervisors will provide a format for the supervision process.

We do encourage both home visitors and supervisors to attend this session for two reasons:

  1. it's a relationship and both sides should share goals and assumptions about how it should go.
  2. the field desperately needs home visiting supervisors with home visiting experience and some of these home visitors could be peer mentors or provide aspects of coaching and mentoring to others.
