will be presenting the professional development workshop

 Diversity and Culture- a look at the whole picture 

Introducing the Culturagram – Having a Look at the Whole Picture

This engaging and interactive workshop will provide a presentation and discussion on a number of important areas such as:

  • Pre-migration experiences of refugees
  • Behavioral adaptations – role changes in families
  • Influence of culture and connections to country of origin

The day will begin with an introduction to Culturagram. A presentation and discussion regarding some of the experiences that refugees go through prior to migration, the behavioral adaptations and role changes in families through the migration process as well the influence of culture and connections to the country of origin.  After lunch we will address any outstanding questions from the morning session, followed by group work with the Culturagram.    

 

Profile: Karin Linschoten, M.A., CCC               

Karin was born and raised in Germany and lived and worked in Europe, Asia and North America.

Education: Master in Counseling Psychology, specialization Marriage and Family Therapy from the American School for Professional Psychology Certified Canadian Counselor, Certified CCPA Supervisor Extensive Training in Trauma Therapy and Body oriented psychotherapy. She worked in Hawaii with indigenous Hawaiian people and other marginalized populations providing therapy and drug treatment. Karin came to Canada in 2001 and first worked with the Immigrant Mental Health Project here in Edmonton as Mental Health Consultant.

 

Since 2002 she works with the Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, where she is Clinical Director for Health and Wellbeing Services, which provide Counseling and Trauma therapy for Refugees and Immigrants. She also works for the Multicultural Health Brokers’ Coop as Team lead for a Group of Therapists who work with Newcomer Individuals and Families. She provides workshops and trainings related to Mental Health and Newcomers to Community and Government Organizations.

She has lead Personal Growth workshops in Europe, Asia, South and North America.

 From 2012-2016 she was the representative for Canada on the International Council for Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (IRCT), a UN affiliated advisory body.

Payments may be dropped off at the office or mailed to the address listed above prior to the workshop date. Receipts will be issued after the workshop.

Cancellation Policy:
We encourage you to send a substitute if you are unable to attend the workshop, as there is a NO SHOW charge for all absent registrants (as we will have made arrangements for food, etc). Cancellations need to be made ONE WEEK prior to the workshop date. Registration fees are non-refundable. Should a workshop not reach its minimum registration requirement, it will be cancelled ONE WEEK prior to the workshop commencement date. Registrants will be informed by email or telephone, and registration fees will be refunded.
