What is Devlopmental Parenting?

Developmental Parenting refers both t o parenting as a support for children's development and to a particular approach to intervention services in which practitioners use a strength-based approach to identify and support postive parenting behavours that promote children's early health and development.

What's PICCOLO? - An Assessment Tool for Developmental Parenting

PICCOLO (Parenting Interactions with Chidlren: Checklist of Observations Linking to Outcomes) is an observational measure of developmental parenting. Accurate observations of positive parenting behavours can help practitioners identify Developmental Parenting behaviours to encourage and  expand on. PICCOLO is a valid, reliable, user-friendly assessment tool that guides observations of parenting behavours in 4 domains: Affection, Responsiveness, Encouragement and Teaching. Several video observations of parent-child interactions will be part of the training and discussion.
